Hoon Tai Meng, an Advocate and Solicitor, is a Partner in KhattarWong. Besides having 12 years experience in law practice, he also has around 20 years of experience in financial planning and management, audit, tax and corporate secretarial function.

Experience

  • Acting for Vendor for the placement of existing public shares worth around $75 million.
     

  • Acting for a public listed company including preparing circular and seeking shareholders’ approval, (a) in the sale of its building for S$40 million for the building to be converted into internet data centre and (b) in the equity participation of the Vendor in the data centre project.

  • Advising clients on switchgear joint venture project in China whereby clients would be paid Euro 18 million and own 45% of the joint venture with total investment worth Euro 39 million.
     

  • Involved as director in a takeover and privatisation bid through scheme of arrangement of a public listed company with a market capitalisation of $180 million.
     

  • Acting for the Purchaser of partial interest in Mitro Hotel site in a dispute with the Vendor who refused to complete. The High Court dismissed the Vendor’s application and the parties proceeded to complete the transaction.
     

  • Successfully defended a claim brought by the Purchaser of goods for the breach of contract in the Court of Appeal that the Purchaser suffered no damages.
     

  • Acting for a company with net assets worth S$50m and the major shareholder, the Defendants, in a minority oppression action in the High Court. The matter was settled out of court. The matter was settled amicably on the first day of trial.
     

  • Acting for the Plaintiff in a High Court case successfully claiming back goods worth around S$600,000 which were stolen in international water.
     

  • Involved as CFO and company secretary in the merger of Nanyang Siang Pau Ltd and Sin Chew Jit Poh Ltd through scheme of arrangement.

Tai Meng has current directorship in public listed companies which are Chip Eng Seng Corporation Ltd, Federal International (2000) Ltd, Equation Corp Ltd, Middle East Development Singapore Ltd, Intraco Limited, Time Watch Investments Limited, Sin Ghee Huat Corporation Ltd and Yangtze China Investment Ltd.

His other appointments include:

Lecturing engagements

Tai Meng was a part-time lecturer for the Master of Science in Managerial Economics in Nanyang Technological University. This course was conducted in Chinese and attended mainly by senior officials from the PRC.

His other lecturing engagements include:

  • Speaker on “Duties & Responsibilities of Company Director” (公司董事的职责) – a one full day seminar conducted in Mandarin.
     

  • Speaker on “International Seminar on Corporate Legal Advisors” (企业法律顾问国际研讨会) in Beijing. The seminar was organized by State Economic & Trade Commission of the Peoples’ Republic of China (中华人民共和国国家经济贸易委员会) and sponsored by United Nations Development Programme (联合国开发计划署).
     

  • Speaker on “Corporate Restructuring And Foreign Capital Symposium” organised by Chengdu People’s Municipal Government.

  • Speaking at various seminars and training sessions on topics such as “IPO”, “Managing Shareholders’ Expectation” and “Singapore Legal System”
